About CodeCaracal

Who we are, where we are based, and how we work with clients.

Is CodeCaracal an IoT development company in Pakistan?+

Yes. CodeCaracal is an IoT development company based in Pakistan. We design and build complete IoT products — embedded firmware, connectivity, cloud platforms, dashboards and mobile apps — for clients in Pakistan and around the world. Being based in Pakistan lets us offer senior embedded and firmware engineering at rates that are competitive with US and European agencies, while our team works in overlap hours with Western time zones.

Do you work with international clients?+

Yes — most of our clients are international. We have shipped production IoT systems for companies in more than 15 countries across North America, Europe, Australia and the Middle East. We communicate in English over Slack, email or scheduled calls, invoice in USD, and follow your time zone where practical.

Can I hire an IoT developer remotely from Pakistan?+

Yes. We regularly work as a dedicated remote team or as individual developers embedded into a client's existing team. You get senior ESP32, embedded, AWS IoT, backend and Flutter engineers who join your stand-ups, work in your repositories, and report directly to you. Every engagement starts with an NDA on request and you own all source code and IP.

What makes CodeCaracal different from a freelance IoT developer?+

A single freelancer usually covers one layer — firmware, or an app, or a backend. IoT products span all of those layers, and that is where projects stall. CodeCaracal is a full engineering team: firmware engineers, cloud engineers and app developers who work from one roadmap under one contract. You get senior specialists per layer without managing multiple vendors, and without the risk of a solo developer disappearing mid-project.

What experience do you have building IoT systems?+

We have worked on IoT and embedded systems since 2019 and shipped hundreds of projects, from smart agriculture and livestock tracking to industrial monitoring, cold-chain logistics and fleet telematics. Our case studies describe real production systems we designed and deployed. If you would like references relevant to your industry, ask us on a discovery call and we will share what we can under NDA.

Process & Engagement

How a project starts, how we scope it, and how you stay in control.

How does an IoT development project start?+

With a free discovery call. We spend 30 minutes understanding your product, constraints and success criteria. If there is a fit, we produce a written proposal: system architecture, technology choices, milestones, timeline and a fixed price. Once you approve, we start in two-week sprints with live demos, so you see working firmware, dashboards or apps — not slide decks.

How much does IoT development cost?+

IoT project budgets vary widely because every product is different. A firmware-only prototype can start in the low thousands of dollars; a full product — hardware bring-up, firmware, cloud backend, dashboard and mobile app — typically ranges from roughly $15,000 to $60,000+ depending on scope and complexity. We give honest fixed-price proposals after a discovery call, and we can also quote a dedicated developer or small team on a monthly basis if you prefer.

How long does it take to build an IoT product?+

A proof of concept can take 4–8 weeks. A production-ready MVP with firmware, cloud and one app usually takes 3–6 months. Larger platforms with fleets of devices, multi-tenant dashboards and regulatory requirements take longer. Timelines depend heavily on hardware decisions and certification needs, so we agree on milestones and dates in the proposal rather than guessing.

Do you offer fixed-price or hourly engagements?+

Both. For well-defined scopes we prefer fixed-price sprints, because it removes risk for you — we carry the cost of underestimation. For longer platform work or team augmentation we offer monthly dedicated-team or hourly models. We will recommend whichever fits your project and budget after the discovery call.

What do you need from us to get started?+

As little as an idea. The discovery call covers the essentials: what the product should do, who uses it, the environment it operates in, and any existing hardware or code. If you already have a PCB, firmware or cloud account, share what you can — we will build on it rather than restart.

Who owns the source code and IP?+

You do. All source code, firmware, hardware designs, documentation and intellectual property produced during the engagement is transferred to you on payment. We sign NDAs on request and are happy to follow your procurement or legal process.

Do you provide support and maintenance after launch?+

Yes. Every project can include a post-launch support window, and most clients continue with an ongoing retainer covering firmware updates, OTA releases, monitoring, bug fixes and small feature changes. We also operate and observe systems we deploy, so issues are usually caught before you notice them.

Technology & Services

What we build with — and which service fits your product.

Which IoT development services do you offer?+

We cover the full stack: IoT product development, ESP32 and Arduino development, embedded systems and firmware engineering, LoRaWAN networks, MQTT and AWS IoT platforms, real-time dashboards, and Flutter mobile apps. You can engage us for one layer or for the entire product under one contract. See our services pages for the scope of each.

Do you build products on ESP32?+

Yes — ESP32 is our most-used platform. We develop production firmware on ESP32, ESP32-S3 and ESP8266 in C and C++ (ESP-IDF), including Wi-Fi and BLE connectivity, secure MQTT to AWS IoT Core, signed OTA updates, and deep-sleep power engineering for battery-powered devices. We also bring up custom ESP32 boards and integrate sensors and peripherals.

Can you help with an Arduino prototype or Arduino-based product?+

Yes. Arduino is where most hardware products start, and we take over at any stage: finishing a half-built prototype, cleaning up firmware, adding connectivity, or migrating an Arduino sketch to a production-ready ESP-IDF or STM32 toolchain when you are ready to manufacture. For small pilots Arduino can ship as-is; for thousands of units we plan the path to a custom board.

What is the difference between Arduino and ESP32, and which should I use?+

Arduino is both a hardware platform and an ecosystem (the Arduino IDE and libraries) that makes prototyping fast. ESP32 is a specific chip family with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Many "Arduino" projects actually run on ESP32 boards programmed through the Arduino ecosystem. For connected IoT products we usually recommend ESP32 or a custom board with ESP32-class silicon; for pure offline control and learning, classic Arduino boards are simpler. We will recommend based on your connectivity, power and cost needs.

Do you build LoRaWAN and long-range IoT networks?+

Yes. We design and deploy LoRaWAN systems end to end: low-power end-device firmware, gateway siting and coverage planning, The Things Network or private network-server integration, payload decoders, and dashboards that scale to thousands of nodes. LoRaWAN is our go-to when devices must run for years on batteries across wide areas — farms, ranches, utilities and cities.

Do you use MQTT for device communication?+

Yes — MQTT is the backbone of most systems we build. We architect secure MQTT at production scale: broker selection and sizing (AWS IoT Core, EMQX, Mosquitto or VerneMQ), TLS and mTLS device authentication with per-device certificates, topic and QoS design, and the data pipeline that turns a stream of messages into a live dashboard.

Do you build on AWS IoT Core?+

Yes. We build IoT cloud platforms on AWS IoT Core including device provisioning at scale, rules engines, Lambda and serverless backends, Timestream or InfluxDB storage, and monitoring. We also optimise existing AWS IoT architectures — we have documented approaches to cutting IoT cloud costs substantially by fixing message sizing, lifecycle policies and data-retention tiers.

Can you build a real-time IoT dashboard for our data?+

Yes. We build production dashboards in React and Next.js with WebSocket data feeds for sub-second updates, purpose-built time-series charts, alerting, and role-based access for multi-tenant products. If you already store data in InfluxDB, Timescale or PostgreSQL, we connect directly to it. Our own industrial systems handle more than 10,000 data points per second.

Do you build mobile apps for IoT products?+

Yes — we develop IoT mobile apps in Flutter for iOS and Android from one codebase. That includes BLE device pairing and commissioning, MQTT and WebSocket real-time data, offline-first behaviour in the field, push alerts for device events, and app-store release management.

Can you take over an existing IoT project or codebase?+

Yes. We regularly inherit projects that stalled with another vendor or an internal team. We audit the existing firmware, hardware and cloud architecture, tell you honestly what is worth keeping, and take over or refactor from there. Tell us what exists and we will scope the transition in the proposal.

Prototypes, Hardware & Production

Going from a concept or prototype to something you can ship.

Can you take my idea from concept to a working prototype?+

Yes. We start from a rough idea and take it through product definition, hardware selection, firmware, connectivity and a working prototype you can demo. From there we can move you toward a manufacturable design: custom PCB, production firmware, OTA update pipeline and the documentation a contract manufacturer needs.

Can you design custom PCBs and hardware?+

We do hardware design in partnership with PCB engineers: schematic design, component selection, layout review and design-for-manufacturing guidance for ESP32, STM32 and nRF52-based boards. We also engineer the firmware that runs on them. If your project needs full industrial design or certification testing, we coordinate with the right specialists and manage them for you.

How do you handle security on IoT devices and platforms?+

Security is designed in from the first architecture call. Our baseline includes unique X.509 certificates per device, TLS or mTLS for all traffic, least-privilege MQTT policies, signed and verified firmware updates, secure boot where the hardware supports it, and secrets stored in encrypted flash. We never bolt security on at the end.

How do you handle OTA firmware updates in the field?+

We build signed OTA pipelines with A/B partitions and rollback safety, so a bad update can never brick a device. Updates are staged — rolled out to a small percentage of the fleet, monitored, then expanded. Devices confirm the new firmware boots correctly before it is marked active.

How long can IoT devices run on battery in your designs?+

For battery-powered devices we engineer power budgets from day one: deep-sleep architecture, wake-up scheduling, peripheral power gating and low-quiescent-current regulators. With the right hardware choices, sensor nodes that report a few times per hour can run for one to several years on a single charge — we have shipped solar-plus-battery nodes designed for multi-year life in the field.

Can you help with IoT device certification (FCC, CE)?+

We design with certification in mind from the start — radio layout, emissions and power are considered during schematic and layout review rather than after the fact. We prepare the technical documentation and work with accredited test labs to get your product through FCC, CE and related testing.

What if my product needs to work in a remote area without internet?+

That is a common requirement in agriculture, mining and utilities. We build offline-first systems using LoRaWAN or LoRa mesh for local coverage, local gateways with cellular or satellite backhaul, and edge buffering so no data is lost when the backhaul drops. Mobile apps for field staff work fully offline and sync when a connection returns.

Hiring & Working Together

Practical questions about hiring us and what happens next.

Can I hire a dedicated IoT developer or ESP32 developer from your team?+

Yes. You can hire dedicated ESP32 developers, embedded engineers, AWS IoT and backend engineers, or Flutter developers — either as individual specialists embedded in your team or as a full product team running the project end to end. You work directly with the engineers, review progress in weekly sprints, and keep full control of priorities.

How quickly can we start?+

We scope most engagements in a single discovery call and can usually start within a week. Typical response time to your inquiry is under 24 hours, and we will tell you honestly if we are not the right fit for your project.

How do you communicate during a project?+

You get a dedicated project channel (Slack, Teams or Discord), a shared roadmap, and regular demo calls at each sprint. For dedicated-team engagements, our engineers join your ceremonies and work directly with your team. You always know exactly what is being built and what shipped this week.

Do you sign NDAs?+

Yes. We sign NDAs on request before any detailed discussion of your product, and we are happy to follow your standard vendor paperwork or procurement process.

What information do you need to give me a quote?+

A quote needs enough scope to estimate honestly: what the product does, the environment it operates in, rough quantities (devices, users), and which layers you need. If you only have an idea, start with the discovery call — we will ask the right questions and turn your answers into a proposal.
